5 Tips to Write Great Social Media Content

Social media can be a powerful tool for businesses… when done right. Whether you write your own social media content or delegate it to another company, you want to make the most of this online marketing powerhouse. So before you hit send on your next social media post, here are five helpful tips:

1. Be Descriptive

Grab your audience’s attention by injecting action verbs and phrases that light up the imagination. You’ve got only a few seconds before they scroll past your post or micro-blog. Think outside of the box, and make use of words not commonly used. Dust off that thesaurus!

2. Get to the Point

Once you have a catchy opener, your reader wants you to give them the goods quickly. Long posts are often immediately passed over in favor of shorter ones that are easier to scan and act upon. Save lengthier posts for your website’s or landing page. The goal is simply to get them to your website where you can share a little bit more. So keep it short and sweet. Use lots of action related words too, to entice them to click.

3. Educate the Reader

Add statistics and interesting factoids to your social media content. Some cool places to troll for ideas are TED and Flickr. Feedly and BuzzSumo are other good tools to use for generating content ideas. SoMe is a great way to establish yourself as a reliable and credible source of information. You want to provide relevance and value, then leave them wanting more. That’s where links come in…

4. Direct Links

Use only direct links to your content. Forcing viewers to make multiple clicks in order to access the information will only cause frustration and damage your online reputation. Deliver the information you advertised. If you wish to show them something else, save it for another post. Remember, SoMe is a conversation and happens over time.

5. Proofread your Posts

When creating social media content, be sure they are error free. Take a minute to ensure there are no misspellings or grammatical errors as they will stand out like a sore thumb.
