Consistency, Baby

Search engine bots and crawlers reward sites that consistently publish new content. If your blog posting schedule is sporadic, then the indexing of your content will follow suit. Even if you think you’re talking to crickets, establish a routine and stick to it. For those visitors who have found your site, consistent blogging will create loyalty… and increase web traffic… over time.

Quality Counts

Write with your audience in mind. Blog posts are meant to educate and entertain rather than sell. Additionally, get clear on how you’ll add value. Don’t simply reiterate something you’ve read somewhere else. Put your unique twist on it. You’re in the process of gathering your crowd so don’t be afraid to talk directly to them.

If you make it easy to scan, by using striking images and smart styling (e.g., subheading, bullets, etc.), your reader will stick around longer. Not only are you looking to increase web traffic, you want to increase the amount of pageviews and time spent on your website. When you produce quality content, the more likely your readers will engage and comment. By the way, Google notices these stats. So pay attention to bounce rate and to which pages have less-than-stellar statistics.

Increase Web Traffic By Making It Share-able & Social

We tell our clients that a website is the crown jewel of an online presence. Everything should point to the website as that is where sales conversions occur. That said, you want to share your content. Whether you use a WordPress plugin like Publicize (Jetpack) to push out posts, schedule them via a social media management tool like HootSuite, or make individual social media postings with a link, you want your network to spread the word. That said, don’t be spammy. Think about your message and tailor it appropriately to each of your social networks.

On your website, make it easy for your readers to share your content. FYI – some readers prefer RSS readers like Feedly where they can subscribe. How ever they find and read your posts, making it shareable will spread the word and ultimately increase web traffic.

What’s Next?

Do you know where you want your readers to go next? If you don’t, they won’t know either. Think like (and respect) your reader. In WordPress we use Yet Another Related Posts plugin so it presents other posts within the same category.

Every web page and blog post should have a clear call to action. Investing in an attention-getting call-to-action (CTA) button is wise as it will stand-out. Lastly, don’t forget to set-up your CTA goal(s) in Google Analytics. As Peter Drucker said “what gets measured gets done.”

What else have you done to increase web traffic?
