How To Build a Website for Less Than $200

Putting The “Small” In Small Business

At Spectrum we’ve always been motivated in helping small businesses. We’ve often found that small businesses have budget constraints that come with running a lean or bootstrapped business. We’re not talking about SMBs here, we’re talking about micro businesses! Micro businesses are often sole proprietorships or those with fewer than five employees. After spending years thinking about this problem we think we’ve found a way to help them take advantage of the web.  

The solution is a simple WordPress.com website with three pages. It includes a homepage, a product or service page and a contact page. All for $149 $99.

The Digital Cafe Plan

Our solution came from working with a B2B client that sells to independent coffee shops and cafes, offering a roasting machine that allows them to create their own blends of coffee. Many of these cafe’s didn’t even have a website; relying on a Google My Business or Yelp page to showcase their business. So we came up with a plan to help them create a simple website that wouldn’t cost them thousands of dollars yet include the features they need to showcase their wares.

In the age of Covid, being available online is incredibly important. Wherever your business is based, a large portion of the U.S. population is sheltering in place or working within social distancing limits. If you can’t easily be found, and contacted online, you’re bound to be missing out.

You might be thinking “We have a Facebook page” or “We’re on Yelp”. That’s great! But not all your potential customers use those services. Having a website helps you access more people by putting you in places you don’t already have a presence. It also allows you to centralize key information into one place that’s 100% under your control. Your Facebook page, Instagram portfolio, and Yelp profile can send customers to your website to contact or buy from you.

And if you haven’t worked on a website before it can be a daunting and time-consuming process. That’s why we’ve kept things simple. Three pages maximum. Each page has a simple function and purpose:

  • Homepage – Introduce your business
  • Product page – Explain what you do in more detail
  • Contact page – How can a customer reach you

And that’s it. If you want to extend the website to include more pages later on… you can. We’ll provide the foundation for just 99 bucks.
