Streamlining for Mobile Pages

For WordPress website owners gearing up to use Accelerated Mobile Pages to streamline mobile use, there’s some fear about the difficulty of creating their own AMP. Basically, what AMP means is that you’re creating an alternative site hosted by Google. The AMP site, as the name would suggest, is created for mobile and device users. That site has streamlined HTML so that your pages load faster and are easier to navigate.

All of that sounds great but, for the less techie inclined, it also looks a bit intimidating to set up. Enter the beauty of AMP WordPress Plugins. This is one of the biggest advantages that WordPress offers its customers – the open source coding allows for all sorts of great plugins to address new changes webmasters need to quickly navigate. Accelerated Mobile Pages are no exception.

Choosing AMP WordPress Plugins

There are a few AMP Plugins currently available. As with any user-generated plugin, you’ll want to look at reviews and decide which best fits your site needs. The Plugins Directory offers a number of choices, as well as plugins offering to support analytics for your new AMP pages.

As a basic overview, AMP plugins seek to automatically generate the AMP version of your site, available on a separate Google hosted platform. For your convenience, you don’t have to develop your Accelerated Mobile Pages manually, at least not completely. Some of the plugins promise that your feed with be generated automatically with no configurations. As more users beta test these plugins and advances are added, you should expect that they are simpler to use and some of the early issues will be resolved.

Currently, there are options to customize your themes – the code is laid out cleanly but offers options to add your own customization to small pieces or the whole. Google’s parameters for coding on AMP is pretty stringent, so it’s advisable to research their regulations before playing with the HTML too much. And it’s always a good idea to run multiple beta tests from various devices.

The Benefit of Choosing a Plugin

Choosing to use AMP is really a no brainer. There’s no downside to offering your mobile readers a better experience. Choosing a plugin means that a large portion of the adaptation is done for you and you have the benefit of a wealth of troubleshooting help if you don’t understand an aspect of the configuration or run into errors.
