Trends for the New Year

First Happy New Year. It’s officially 2015. While many corporate offices are closed, some marketers may be putting the finishing touches on their annual budgets and marketing plans. So what are the digital marketing predictions for 2015? There are a few surprises, there are a few trends we’ve seen before.

Content with a Twist

Thin content is out; in-depth and helpful content is in. We suggest that you focus on answering questions and look at how your “fathead” keywords and long-tail keywords are connected. Think like your audience; they are on a quest to get information. They may be looking for that information on a standard screen (laptop/desktop) or on their tablet. How they interact with content depends upon the device. You’ve probably heard about adaptive content and the term omni channel. Search behaviors are changing, and how your content performs will need to keep pace. This also applies to social networks and online advertising. Digital marketers who measure how consumers are interacting with their brand and content will fare better in 2015.

Data Driven & Ultra Targeted Marketing Campaigns

Big data. More data. Attributed data. This 2015 digital marketing trend is all about making sense of the information and extracting insights. Experts expect that marketing campaigns will be targeted to segments (or even segments within a segment) to test out theories, user behaviors and conversion performance. This will put more pressure on analytics for accuracy, key performance indicators and agile interpretation of the data for strategic insights.

Original Videos  & Other Visuals for Brand Awareness

We also know that cat videos go viral. Friskies brilliantly capitalized on this phenom with their Dear Kitten series. There are several big brands — Dove, GoPro, Apple to name a few — who use video content to engage viewers. Use of other visual media like Vine, Instagram and Pinterest will take a bigger role in 2015. So get your infographics together.

These are just a few digital marketing predictions for 2015. More to come…
