A Suggestion Is Now a Warning

Over the last year or so Google has hinted that mobile-friendly websites would fare better in search. They issued suggestions to Webmasters on a number of occasions. Now, warnings are issued. Not sure if your website is an offender? Look in Google Webmaster Tools under “Site Messages.”

Mobile Ranking Is Official

According to the February 26 announcement, the official mobile ranking changes will start on April 21. Here is Google’s official statement:

… expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.

It doesn’t get any clearer: mobile SEO is now mainstream.

Guide for Mobile-Friendly Websites & Usability Testing

  • Test a web page to see if it’s mobile friendly
  • Review third-party software to adjust your website software
