Moving house is always stressful and moving website is no different. There are lots of things you have to consider if you’re changing your web hosting. But, if you do things the right way, one thing you shouldn’t have to worry about is your SEO.
The Perfect Host
Moving hosting will result in a slow down when it comes to how often your site is crawled, but, according to Google’s John Mueller, this shouldn’t last for too long as Google will quickly catch on to the new location for your website. So this shouldn’t have time to negatively impact your SEO ranking.
Isn’t It Ironic
This is all based on the assumption that you’re moving to a host that is equal, or better, in terms of speed. Any drops in ranking that you may have noticed after changing host are more likely to be due to errors made setting up the site on the new host rather than the change itself.
So if you think it’s time to find a new web host, one thing you don’t need to worry about is your SEO catching up.
Making the Change
If you’re considering moving web hosts you need to think of a number of things before you take the plunge:
- What type of hosting do you need? Do you need a dedicated server, or can you share with other companies?
- What type of site do you have? How much traffic are you going to get? What are your plans for the future? Will you experience very high traffic at certain times?
- Do they offer other features? (like email hosting or separate domains for testing things with your site).
One thing you don’t need to think about is, your SEO ranking dropping.
