Reading Time: 2 minutes

& Replaces One of My Favorite Plugins

The Jetpack 2.4 update includes several exciting upgrades. WordPress.com, the author of Jetpack, included 2 new modules, three new shortcodes and some fixes. I’ll highlight the changes and why it’s interesting news.

  • Learn website requirements
  • Configure technical settings
  • Improve user-experience
  • Do optimization & Tracking

This is a very cool addition and replaces one of my favorite plugins, Widget Logic. Prior to Jetpack 2.4 it was a bit of a struggle to control which pages where a specific widget should appear. Here’s an example: let’s say you have a blog page and you only want “Categories” to show on the blog summary page and posts. Widget Visibility allows you fine-tune how widgets appear on your WordPress website. In my opinion, it’s a very elegant solution.

Jetpack 2.4 & WordPress.com Connect (WPCC)

This new module connects WordPress.com credentials with a self-hosted WordPress website login information. While they say its safe and secure, I do recommend following safe password protocols. My advice: if you can remember it, it’s not secure enough. Use a strong password generator so you’re not tempted for 5-digit passwords comprised of your favorite pet’s name.

New Shortcodes & Fixes

If you use services like Twitter Timelines and Vine or like to display slide presentations on your WordPress website, you’ll love the new shortcodes. Jetpack 2.4 also remedies several bugs. If you’re a technical geek like me, visit the changelog for all gory details.

Are you as excited as I am about Jetpack 2.4? Would love to hear your reasons.
