Earlier in the year we wrote about how Google has started to change and switch out meta descriptions for text at the top of the page if their bots think that it will perform better in the search engine results page. So why are Google rewriting page titles?

Over the last few years Google have slowly rolled out automation to how the search engine ranking process works and also in other areas like Google Ads. Now it seems that the next phase will be Google writing your page titles for you.

Webmaster Hangouts

In a recent Webmaster Hangouts Google’s John Mueller confirmed that page titles will occasionally be overridden by Google’s AI mechanism when it thinks the page titles will not perform well.

As we know from working with various types of company there are still many sites out there that don’t have page titles. So if you’ve already taken the time to look at yours and optimize them then your site probably won’t fall victim to the robots.
