Reading Time: 2 minutesI recently read a Forbes article predicting the Death of SEO within two years. What a dramatic and polarizing statement. I love it. Woah… how can a digital marketer actually look forward to the demise of SEO? For these three reasons:
1. SEO Shysters Will Be Exposed
As a legitimate online marketing agency, we are compared with outsourced SEO providers who charge $99 month for paid links and $299 for so-called keyword research. Frankly it’s tiresome to try to educate the difference between a Yugo and a fully-equipped Camry. No offense to the few Yugo drivers out there… but it hasn’t been manufactured since in 1991 for good reason. The death of SEO means that small businesses can’t invest hard-earned money with these snake-oil salesmen.
2. Great Content Will Be Rewarded
Sadly copy writing has become a commodity. You can get a blog post for six bucks. It’s garbage, but hey… you get 300 words of readable gibberish that you can publish on your website quickly and minimal fuss. In comparison, investing in a well-crafted, researched post that’s optimized and styled will cost you between $75-$100. When SEO (in its current iteration) is dead, great content will get rewarded. Sharing relevant content is becoming an important currency for demand generation. Authors committed to adding quality content will reap the benefits as they will posed for a brave new world.
3. Need for Overall Online Strategy
When the death of SEO occurs, there will be pressure to have an overall online strategy in place. A website is the center of your online universe, with social media platforms serving as satellites. A well-rounded content marketing strategy will including regular blog posts, white papers, and the like to demonstrate industry expertise and thought leadership.
Does the death of SEO (in its current incarnation) scare you or excite you?
