Adapting to a More Human Interface
Wearable technology is the next frontier for computing. We can thank Gene Roddenberry for his imagination, inspiring all types of technology from his iconic Star Trek franchise. Probably the most high-profile product is Google Glass. Yet there are other wearable computers are on the horizon coming to a retailer near you. Click for a free 30-minute consultation »
Wearable Tech Available Now
There are all sorts of wearable tech items available: Watches – Samsung has a whole product line showcasing miniaturized smartphone technology that fits on a wrist. Apple is working on iWatch that will push the envelope in wearable tech sleekness. Fitness Bands – Fitbits, ActiveLinks, Polar and Jawbone are some of the brands specializing in wearable fitness bands that count steps, measure heart rate, calculate calories burned, and track sleep patterns. Cameras – Google Glass has a hefty price tag at $1500. The Narrative Clip is a tiny camera that uploads photos to cloud storage priced under $300. CNet has a nice article summarizing the best wearable technology products available. NPR weighed in on how a clip-on camera can document a life in pictures.
Amazon is capitalizing on the wearable tech trend; they have a whole section entitled “Wearable Technology.” It features Samsung’s product line and the FitBit. The Narrative Clip will be coming to the online marketplace. Plus, it has an Editor’s Corner — interesting commentary from Gizmodo. In the latest article, they ponder what lies ahead… machines that run on body heat. Perhaps we’ll have gadgets that won’t require charging. I wonder how long it will take until we can ditch our solar-powered chargers?
Wearable Wish List
What’s on your wearable tech wish list? For Massimo it’s definitely Google Glass. He sees infinite possibilities for interesting videos and training sessions for our agency. I’m thinking about the Narrative Clip. At $279 it would solve the issue of chronicling life’s events (my husband and I are notorious for forgetting to take out the camera).
