For More Features & Insights
Universal Analytics has been around for a while, primarily in beta mode until recently. Since we rely heavily on Analytics to provide insights to our clients, I’ll explain what Universal Analytics offers over regular GA and what’s on the horizon.
GA vs. UA
So what’s the fuss all about? Universal Analytics offers a few more goodies than GA, including:
- Customized dimensions and metrics (variables)
- Online/offline data sync
- Multi-platform tracking
- Simplified configuration controls
- Promise of some new cool features coming soon
Destined for Universal Analytics
Google announced that Universal Analytics will become the default. Any updates and new features will be built upon the new infrastructure. And for those sites who haven’t upgraded to Universal Analytics will be auto-transferred. Since I’m a data guy, why would you wait?!
Upgrading to Universal Analytics isn’t instant; it can take 24-48 hours. First, you must transfer your website property to UA. This is completed in the Google Analytics Admin Page. Note: only users with “Edit” permissions may initiate the transfer. Once the transfer is complete, you need to update the tracking code on your website.
