Is There Really an Ideal Time?
Timing social media posts can be a conundrum… especially if you have a global audience. Scheduling tweets, Facebook posts, and blog articles is made easier with automation tools like HootSuite. In this post we’ll explore the optimal time to publish your social media posts.
Research Behind Social Media Posts
Social Media Today published an article based on research from various sources. They collected data from sites like Mashable and Bitly; their infographic provides some helpful insight and is packed with info. However, in comparing it with other credible sources, the answers are certainly not definitive. Here’s a recap of what we’ve found:
- Facebook – One data set suggests 10am to 4pm Monday thru Thursday. Another says 7am & 3pm.
- Twitter – 1pm – 3pm Monday thru Thursday.
- LinkedIn – before and after business hours Tuesday thru Thursday.
- Google+ – Mornings during the workday
- Pinterest – One of the few platforms where weekday evenings and weekends makes the most sense to engage.
Take Friday Off
According to BuzzFeed, Americans work more than people in Japan and most of Western Europe. We average 13 vacation days a year… with Japan trailing at 10 days and China at a paltry 5. While we might be slaving away in our offices, apparently Friday social media posts have a higher likelihood of getting ignored. Most sources recommend lighthearted social media posts on Friday.
Blog Post Scheduling
Unless you’ve got a huge following on your website (think Guy Kawasaki), the timing of your blog posts probably isn’t super critical. However, consistency and frequency are. Establish a schedule and stick to it.
