Reading Time: 2 minutesPolling & New Chrome Apps
There are varying opinions about the future of Google’s social platform; will it survive or not? We’re seeing new Google+ features and new apps released. It bodes well for integration of email, texting, and video chatting.
New Social Leader
David Besbris is Google’s new head of social. Besbris is the former VP of engineering for Google+ and now oversees all social products. Despite rumors that members of the social team were getting absorbed by other departments, the group has actually grown. According to an interview with Re/code, here’s his answer to “Where does Google+ fall in terms of your priority list?”
Very high. Photos, Hangouts, Google+ — I’d say these are my top three priorities. The Google+ app you see out there today is used by hundreds of millions of users…
Polling Friends & Followers
Back in October polling was added to Google+ features. You can create a mini-survey with up to five choices with photos (that you’ve uploaded to G+). It’s a way to spark engagement and attention for G+ posts/conversations.
Google+ Features include App for Hangouts
Texting with the Google ecosystem just got easier. You can download an app to Chrome that makes video chatting via Hangouts easier. The new app supports voice-chats, phone calls and SMS text messaging. Using the app makes it faster to use these features on your desktop, to do things like voice calling. I’ve found this to help my productivity; with a wireless headset I can quickly make and answer phone calls… all from my three-screened command center.
